Maria Alexander named Executive Director of the Anderson Education Foundation (AEF)

The Anderson Education Foundation (AEF)’s Board of Directors announced today the hiring of Maria Alexander as their new Executive Director. In this role she will oversee the day-to-day operations of AEF which includes grant programs, the Anderson Community Schools (ACS) Hall of Fame, and fundraising efforts to support students, teachers, and staff at ACS.

“The AEF Board of Directors are pleased to welcome Maria as our new Executive Director,” said Brad Meadows, President of AEF. “She is very involved in our community, has children that attend ACS, and is passionate about building a bridge between the community and ACS. We look forward to supporting her any way that we can.”

A resident of Anderson since 2000, Alexander is committed to making the community a better place for everyone. After graduating from Anderson University, she worked as a youth pastor. More recently she has worked with students through More and Diverse Voices, Standing Up for Racial Equity (SURE), as a volunteer with Community Lens of Anderson, and she was on the planning committee for the Anderson Pride event held last summer.

Along with a group of students, she also helped to produce a new documentary that was released last month at the Anderson Impact Center called “Black Excellence resides in Anderson.” The documentary, found here, has generated a lot of positive feedback from the community.

“As a parent of three school-aged children, I have a vested interest in making sure schools and our community are served,” said Alexander. “AEF is uniquely positioned to be a key player in this work. As Executive Director, I look forward to expanding partnerships with local businesses, volunteers, and creating more community connections.”

The Anderson Education Foundation (AEF) was created in 1978 to serve as a bridge between the community and Anderson Community Schools. AEF's mission is to provide resources for educators to enrich and expand educational opportunities for students in Anderson Community Schools. The AEF is a proud member of the Indiana Association of Public Education Foundations (INAPEF).
